Gambling licences

Newport City Council, as licensing authority, issues licences for casinos, betting offices and race tracks, bingo clubs, adult gaming centres and family entertainment centres.

The council also issues permits for gaming machines in members’ clubs and licensed premises, gaming in members’ clubs, prize gaming, unlicensed family entertainment centres. 

To apply for this licence submit a full copy of the application and plan to each of the responsible authorities (pdf).

Each has 28 days to respond to the licensing section.

Notice of Intention to Publish the Statement of Gambling Policy 

Notice is hereby given of Newport City Council intention to publish the statement of the principles (the Policy) that the Licensing Authority proposes to apply in exercising its functions under the Gambling Act 2005, following the triennial review of the existing Statement of Policy.

The Statement of Policy 2019 will be valid for a maximum of three years, but can be reviewed or revised by the Licensing Authority at any time.

The Statement of Policy 2019 will be published on the 7th December 2018 and will come into effect on the 14th  January 2019.
