Register online at Gov.UK Register to Vote or telephone (01633) 210744
Have your national insurance (NI) number to hand - although you can still register if you do not have one.
You can find your NI number on your national insurance card, payslip or on letters about benefits or tax credits.
Look out for a confirmation to say you are registered.
There are two electoral registers compiled from information from residents:
The electoral register lists the names and addresses of everyone who is registered to vote in public elections.
Your vote matters, make sure you’re registered
It is used to make sure only eligible people can vote and also for detecting fraud, calling people for jury service and checking credit applications.
The open register is an extract of the electoral register and can be bought by businesses and charities.
Visit Gov.UK Register to Vote and click the checkbox if you do not want your name and address listed on the open register, this will not affect your right to vote.

Individual Electoral Registration
In June 2014 Individual Electoral Registration (IER) was introduced.
Most people who were already registered were transferred automatically to the new register.
If you weren’t previously registered you can register on the Gov.UK Register to Vote site.
Everyone is responsible for registering themselves unlike the old system where the head of the household could register everyone who lived at their address.
When you register you need to provide a few more details including your national insurance number and date of birth which makes the electoral register more secure.
If you feel your safety will be at risk if your name appears on the register of electors contact the Electoral Registration Office for advice.
It is an offence not to provide the Electoral Registration Officer with the information required and could result in a fine.
