Christmas characters

Newport's Christmas lights were switched on with entertainment and fireworks on Saturday 16 November.

Caerleon Christmas celebrations 

Saturday 7 December, 10am - 6pm 

Enjoy traditional festive storytelling sessions at the Roman Fortress Baths at 11am, 1pm and 3pm.   

A farmers market will be held in Caerleon Town Hall from 10am - 4pm offering festive treats and presents from a variety of local producers' food and craft stalls. 

Keep an eye out for Santa Claus who has promised to drop in...  

End the day with Carols on the Common from around 4.30pm.

Park and ride

Saturday 23 November - Saturday 21 December 2019

A free Saturday park and ride service will run every 10 minutes between the Civic Centre car parks and the city centre bus station from 9am, with the last bus departing from the city centre at 5.50pm.

Christmas waste and recycling collections

Apart from Christmas Day and New Year's Day, when there will be no collections, bins and recycling will be collected one day later than usual over the Christmas and New Year period. 

  • Monday 23 December: collections as usual
  • Tuesday 24 December: collections as usual
  • Wednesday 25 December: no collection - bins and recycling will be collected Thursday, 26 December
  • Thursday 26 December: collections will take place Friday 27 December
  • Friday 27 December: collections will take place Saturday 28 December
  • Monday 30 December: collections as usual
  • Tuesday 31 December: collections as usual
  • Wednesday 1January: no collection - bins and recycling will be collected Thursday 2 January
  • Thursday 2 January: collections will take place Friday 3 January
  • Friday 3 January: collections will take place Saturday 4 January

Council services

We will be open with the usual office hours on Monday 23 December and Friday 27 December and will close at 3pm on Tuesday 24 December.

Council buildings will be closed on:

  • Wednesday 25 December 2019
  • Thursday 26 December 2019
  • Wednesday 1 January 2020

On all other dates over the Christmas and New Year period council buildings will be open as usual.
