CORONAVIRUS COVID-19 UPDATES

Housing advice & Homelessness

Housing advice and homelessness continue to maintain a service but we would encourage guidance around Covid-19 and social distancing to be followed where possible.  Staff are based at the Information Station but you can also contact us by email rehousing.services@newport.gov.uk or on our direct line 01633 851571/ 01633 851433  if you are homeless, at risk of homelessness or need housing advice.  We can phone you back if requested and staff are prepared for an increase in calls. 

An out of hours service continues to be offered outside of normal office hours on tel: 01633 656656.

If we are already supporting you as you are homeless or at risk of homelessness, please contact your case officer directly by email or phone.  Please submit requested documents by email if possible.

Home Options Newport

The weekly Home Options Newport advert will continue to be published on www.homeoptionsnewport.co.uk each Friday and we are working with partner Housing Associations to ensure allocations go ahead.  You will be contacted directly by the Housing Association if you are going to be offered a property.  Please continue to submit your applications for housing via the Home Options website.  Correspondence will be sent by email if possible.  Please submit queries by web message (via your Home Options account), email to home.options@newport.gov.uk or by telephone to 01633 851571/ 01633 851433.

Housing Associations

Many offices are now closed to the public but a service is being delivered over the phone, by email or in line with social distancing guidance.  Please contact the Housing Association directly for further information and details.

Night Shelter

Eden Gate are unfortunately unable to safely manage a Night Shelter in Newport at the moment.  This will be reviewed regularly in line with government guidance on Covid-19.  Please contact the Council’s homelessness department for further advice, information and help.  Eden Gate are working in partnership with other outreach providers to continue to provide support and accommodation to those sleeping rough in the City.

Support for those sleeping rough

The Wallich are offering breakfast from their project Monday – Friday 7.30am – 9.30am

Olive Branch are offering lunch Friday – Monday 11am – 1pm.  Can also provide a take away meal box.

Eden Gate are offering lunch Tuesday – Thursday 10.30am – 1pm and an evening meal at their offices Monday – Saturday 6pm – 7pm

Our partners will continue to provide outreach work for those sleeping rough, in line with social distancing guidance.  We are working with partner agencies to source and provide accommodation for anyone sleeping rough.  Contact the Homelessness Team for support, advice and information.

Support Gateway

Applications for supported housing and floating support can continue to be submitted via the support gateway.  Further information can be obtained by emailing Newport.gateway@newport.gov.uk or by phone to 01633 656656.  Supported housing will continue to be managed by providers, in line with Covid-19 guidance.
