Street naming and numbering allows a unique identity to be assigned to a street and its properties.

The naming and numbering of streets and properties in Newport is controlled by the council under the Public Health Act 1925 so that new or amended street and property names and numbers are allocated in a logical and consistent manner.

The council's adopted policy for street naming and numbering is being reviewed and updated.

Newport City Council has a statutory responsibility to ensure that streets are named and additional powers to assign a name or number to a property.

The Royal Mail has sole responsibility for assigning postcodes once new or amended address details have been confirmed by the council.

Once the street naming and numbering process is complete the council will provide confirmation of the full address including postcode of the property in question.
