How school can help
Your child's school or early years setting must tell you if they think your child has special educational needs - this is called early years action or school action.
Your child's teacher or the SEN coordinator for the school or early years setting will talk to you and to other people who work with your child and will discuss with you what extra or different help is needed.
An Individual Education Plan (IEP) will be put in place with information including:
- what your child needs to learn
- how this will be taught
- who will help
- when the IEP will be reviewed.
Your child's school or early years setting will discuss the IEP with you and it will be reviewed at least twice a year and ideally each term.
If there are concerns about the progress your child is making the SEN coordinator at the school or early years setting will, after discussion with you, seek further advice.
A new IEP based on the additonal advice will be put in place and you will continue to be kept informed of progress.
Any school or early years setting action plan will continue until it is no longer needed or a request for statutory assessment is considered.
