Children's library card competition – winner announced.

Newport Libraries are delighted to announce that the winner of the design a library card competition is Alfie Downs aged 8. His entry was chosen because of its strong design conveying a love of reading along with an iconic symbol of Newport.
The competition launched in early 2020 but, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the announcement of the winning design had to be delayed.
We would like to thank everyone who entered; there was obviously a lot of thought and creativity put into all the entries received.
There was such a high standard that judging was very nearly impossible, on the judging panel Councillor Debbie Harvey, cabinet member for culture and leisure said: “I have in fairness agonised over these as they are all worthy winners! Ultimately by a freckle Alfie’s was chosen as the winner.”
The entries were of such a high standard it was decided to present a prize to all those shortlisted, Caitlin Taylor, Jack Bland, Alice Bidhendy, Nandinee Singh and Thea Cottingham - with a special prize awarded to Alfie the winner. His design will be put on all new children’s library cards.
Well done to everybody who took part and sent in some wonderful designs.
